How to Spend a Weekend at Clayfield Farm

Nestled on the edge of the Yorkshire Wolds, Clayfield Farm is an ideal base for a weekend in rural Yorkshire. With the charming market town of Pocklington just a mile away, you’re never far from civilisation. Yet with birdsong in the morning and sheep grazing in the surrounding fields, it often feels wonderfully removed from the rush of everyday life.

Clayfield Farm is not just a wedding and events venue with onsite accommodation, it’s also home to us – Charlotte and Wayne. As owners who live here ourselves, we know exactly what makes for the perfect countryside weekend and have created a place where you can truly switch off and settle in.

Choose Your Perfect Cottage

First things first: choose your accommodation.

We have several self-catering cottages at Clayfield Farm. Hazel Cottage and Martin Cottage each sleep four guests, making them ideal for families or friends. Rose Cottage sleeps two and is perfect for a romantic rural escape.

If you’re gathering a larger group, The Farmhouse sleeps up to 12 guests and features a generous farmhouse kitchen and a hot tub – perfect for relaxed evenings under the Yorkshire sky.

A Cosy Friday Evening

When you arrive on Friday night, the last thing you want to do is cook. That’s why we offer the option to pre-order a freshly prepared meal from one of our trusted caterers. Your chosen dish will be waiting in the freezer, ready to heat and enjoy.

Pour a glass of wine, light the fire and settle in for a cosy first evening. There is something very special about that first night away – the quiet, the warmth, and knowing you have the whole weekend ahead.

Saturday: Explore or Unwind

Saturday is your full day to enjoy everything the area has to offer.

After a slow morning soaking up the stillness of Clayfield Farm, pull on your wellies and head out for a countryside walk. There are routes almost from your doorstep, or you can drive a short distance to explore further into the Yorkshire Wolds. Rolling hills, big skies and peaceful footpaths make this area a walker’s dream.

If you’d prefer a little more bustle, the historic city of York is just a 30-minute drive away. With its independent restaurants, Viking heritage and fascinating museums, it’s easy to fill a day exploring its cobbled streets.

Back at Clayfield, if staying in is more your style, you can make use of our pizza oven. This works especially well for larger groups staying in The Farmhouse or with exclusive use of all the cottages. Simply let us know in advance and we’ll cook up a selection for you to enjoy together – relaxed, sociable and delicious. The Farmhouse also has its own large BBQ in the garden, perfect for those midsummer evenings complete with a glass of wine.

A Slow Sunday Morning

After a peaceful night’s sleep, checkout is a leisurely 11am, giving you time for one last coffee and a gentle start to the day.

You’re welcome to leave your car onsite if you’d like to head out for Sunday lunch. A stroll into Pocklington, just one mile away, makes for the perfect finale, with several welcoming pubs serving traditional roasts.

Your Weekend, Your Way

Whether you spend your time walking the Wolds, exploring York, soaking in the hot tub or simply enjoying good food and quiet company, a weekend at Clayfield Farm is about slowing down and making space for what matters.

However you choose to spend your time here, we look forward to welcoming you to the Yorkshire countryside and Clayfield Farm.
